In June 2010, the Ad Hoc Committee on Sentencing Alternatives, Re-Entry, and Best Practices was established by administrative order of the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.

The Committee considered issues relating to best practices for sentencing alternatives and re-entry, and the most effective methods to screen, evaluate, and sentence offenders so as to ensure rehabilitation and less recidivism while protecting public safety, and improving the potential for ex offenders to have a positive contribution to their community. Also, the Committee researched and proposed strategies to provide adequate funding, resources, and public education for sentencing alternatives, re-entry, and best practices. Further, the Committee was to propose changes to rules or programs that improve an ex-offender's chance for re-entry.

Annually, the Committee reported to the Court of Appeals.

Authorization for the Committee expired in June 2012.
