In June 2013, the Commission on the Establishment of a Maryland Educators Service Memorial was authorized (Chapters 569 & 570, Acts of 2013).

The Commission identified an appropriate site either within or close to the State Capitol Complex in Annapolis for the Maryland Educators Service Memorial. Estimates on total funding and preliminary design ideas were considered by the Commission, which then made some recommendations conerning the location, design, and construction of the Memorial. The Commission will provide ongoing review and recommendations on the funding and construction of the Memorial.

In December 2013, the Commission submitted its report to the Governor and General Assembly.

Authorization for the Commission extends through May 31, 2016.
