Board member, Maryland Historical Society; Action for the Homeless; Maryland Education Coalition; Maryland Low-Income Housing Coalition. John R. Hargreaves Distinguished Legislative Fellow Award, Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement, Salisbury University, 2003. President's Medal, The Johns Hopkins University, 2003. Thomas Kennedy Award (posthumously), House of Delegates, 2013. Married; three children. Died in Baltimore, Maryland, November 14, 2003.
